What are Furries, Exactly?

Virtual Embodiment and Furries are linked in more than one way, but to understand why that is so, first what furries exactly are, must be clearly defined.

On the surface, it may be regarded that furries and furry culture are just people dressing up as animals, showing or projecting to the world their supposed animal forms or sides, their fursonas.

However, just like what we often call “ourselves” exactly is; a metaphysical construct made of memories arranged by our ability to reason, form and maintain thoughts, and operate based on our ability to reason, chosen values as well as our instinctual impulses, so are furries.

So in essence, furries are metaphysical, terrestrial anthropomorphic constructs (self, being, different words describing a relative container of sentience, same thing), constructed and existing (as one, fluidly) within the mind (relative container of memory pool, arranged data) of their host.

Of course, such distinction may be perceived as arbitrary but not more so than the arbitrariness of any kind of metaphysical construct, what we often call “ourselves” is as arbitrary a distinction as furries are.

Therefore the link between furries, furry culture and the practice of virtual embodiment is in how the practice of virtual embodiment is evidently and understandably one of the only ways that furries can truly project themselves and interact with the rest of the world as themselves and how they perceive themselves to be.

The importance of pointing this out lies within the need to point out the exact exclusive benefits of our way of life as virtual existentialists (or simply existentialists), to legitimize, for mostly practical reasons regarding the advancement of our cause, by showing what it can enable that our relative physical existence can’t.
